Healthcare Aide 2
Pay rate: $16-20/hr
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each ESSENTIAL DUTY satisfactorily, in addition to the following:
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree and/or Paramedic/EMT training and/or 2 years of directly related experience or training working with children and/or adults with health care needs
Certifications and Licenses
CPR and First Aide certification also required.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills
Ability to communicate courteously, efficiently and effectively with a variety of individuals, including students, faculty, administrators, parents, and representatives of outside organizations. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with peers, subordinates, supervisors, parents, and outside agencies. Ability to remain calm, efficient and effective in responding to medical emergencies and other stressful situations.
Knowledge in the following areas required:
- Use of gastrointestinal tubes
- Diastat administration
- Seizure recognition and intervention
- Ability to use an Epi-pen
To assist and supervise a student instructionally and physically, in a classroom setting, implementing the student’s individual educational and health care program; to play a significant role in assessing the progress and needs of the assigned student, and in assistance in development and modification of the individualized instructional program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
a. As part of the student's team, assist in implementing appropriate individualized
instructional and health care plans and programs for assigned student, making
adaptations as necessary under the direction of the Program Consultant.
b. Work with the student team and SLP to implement the student’s program.
c. Adapt general classroom material/methods as appropriate to meet the needs of the assigned student, in consultation with Program Consultant.
d. Provide instruction to students consistent with the I.E.P. directives and support from the other team members.
e. Consult, when necessary, with the classroom teachers on appropriate instructional interventions.
f. Work with the Integration Specialist and Program Consultant to develop and implement inclusionary opportunities such as "Circle of Friends," friendship groups, peer buddies, etc.
g. Assist students as required with toileting, self-care, eating, wheel chair transport and transfer.
h. Assist students physically as required, including lifting and transferring students.
i. Record data daily on a variety of aspects of students’ progress and health care needs.
j. Attend and participate in all relevant training sessions, meetings and professional growth activities as requested and/or required.
k. Show patience, respect and compassion in working with students.
l. Display an upbeat and emotionally supportive demeanor on a day to day basis.
